Silicones (polyorganosiloxanes) are oxygen-containing high-molecular silicon compounds with the chemical formula [R2SiO]n, where R = organic (methyl, ethyl or phenyl) group. Today, this definition is very rarely adhered to, and «silicones» combine also polyorganosiloxanes (for example, silicone oils such as PMS type, hydrophobizators such as gas liquid type or low molecular rubbers such as SKTN type) and even silicon monomers (different silanes) erasing the differences between the concepts of «silicones» and «organosilicic».
